HCR Manor Care is an institution for post-treatment cases; either short-term or long term. It caters to individuals who are in need of post medical care to completely recover. It is an institution who provides quality care to their patients. The companys main office is located in Toledo; Ohio. Other sites are found in all over 30 states like in Florida; Illinois; Michigan; Ohio and Pennsylvania. It has over 60;000 of employees who provide the quality care to their patients. It has more than 500 branches; 278 nursing and rehabilitation centres; 65 assisted living facilities; and 92 out-patient therapy clinics; and 116 hospice and home health care offices. Manor Care was founded in 1959 by Stewart Bainum Sr. The nursing home is located in Wheaton; Maryland. It was only offered to the public after 10 years. In 1980; Manor merged with Quality International was then renamed into Choice Hotels. Quality International was a hotel company during its starting years. A year after; Choice Hotels bought Cenco; a nursing home operator with almost 105 nursing homes in 19 different states. 1987; Stewart Bainum Jr; took over his father as the chairman and CEO of the company. 1992; the company bought Vitalink Pharmacy Services but finally went back to health care business in 1996.Health Care and Retirement Corporation (HCR) merged with Manor Care in 1998 to form HCR Manor Care. The headquarters was moved to its present location now. Bainum Jr retired in 2000 and proposed to buy the company but the board disagrees. July 2007; a $4.9 billion offer for the buyout by Carlyle Group was accepted.
